University of Hertfordshire

Carillion worked across two sites of the University of Hertfordshire, helping to deliver top class campus and sports facilities as part of one of the largest development projects in higher education.

As main contractor, we were responsible for the meticulous planning and on-schedule delivery of a stimulating and sustainable, yet affordable, teaching and learning environment with first class facilities and state-of-the-art technology.

A £36m design and build contract encompassed the creation of a Learning Resource Centre, faculty building and 500-seat auditorium, while a £190m PFI contract covered the £55m construction of residential accommodation comprising 1,600 student rooms and associated facilities.

We also delivered extensive sports facilities including a 25m eight-lane swimming pool, main and ancillary sports halls, a sports bar, a refectory, four grass sports pitches and three floodlit all-weather sports pitches.
